Young Person’s Self-Help Group

We deliver weekly peer led support groups which for many children and young people who attend prove to be a successful addition to the one-to-one support they receive.

The purpose of our weekly groups are to support Young People and give them tools which they can use to help themselves with their own recovery process, alongside having the opportunity to develop new relationships with their peers which in turn can lead to life long supporting friendships.

Our weekly peer led groups are not just for anyone young person struggling with body image, disordered eating or an eating disorder, but are open to anyone with an underlying general mental health condition.

We always have a variety of topics and we always aim to make our groups fun and stress free.

We have some guidelines at our groups to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable, and whilst our groups are supervised by a staff member, they are always led and facilitated by our Young Peoples volunteers to ensure that the topics and events are relevant to the feedback we receive from those who continue to attend weekly or from week to week.

Our Group Guidelines include:

  • Respect people’s differences and opinions – you all struggle with different issues and are here for different reasons
  • Please do not discuss diets, weight, calories, exercise, or any other triggering topics
  • Please do not expect a miracle cure- we cannot tell you what to do, but can support you to find your own answers.
