First Steps ED has been recognised as the Volunteer Team of the Year at the East Midlands Charity Awards celebration event last night at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Nottingham.
Our volunteers are an integral part of our services, coming back to us as part of their positive recovery to help sustain their self-care which is proven to prevent relapse, and give something back to the next generation of service users.
University of Derby Student placements elect to complete their study hours with First Steps ED and gain valuable work experience in supporting eating disorders which often require a more comprehensive therapy approach due to the range of mental ill health and physical comorbidities, including autism and obsessive compulsive disorder which enhances their skills and work experience knowledge.
Our national award winning befriending service, previously recognised in 2017 by NHS England, Personal Commissioning was also part of our winning bid which we have expanded by 50% during the last 12 months to bring our waiting list down from 3 months to 1 week, now being able to connect new service users quickly with a matched carer with relevant lived experience to support their individual and family therapy needs.
As an expert by experience, service-led charitable organisation, families come to us for our integrated, person-centred care approach, where our volunteers with lived experience working alongside our trained and experienced staff, many themselves with lived experience of eating disorders provide, one to one support; family therapy; peer groups.
our technology assisted services, extended care support for up to 12 months and when other services are not available. .This award recognises the exceptional work of all our volunteers, and shows the true impact that our services have thanks to their input.
During the last 12 months, our team trained 66 additional volunteers who have joined over 100 active volunteers providing 10.950 hours to eating disorder services, and saving £165,100 for our NHS stakeholders. (27th June 2019)
